Programmer · One Last Game Production

Apploid Ballfare is a casual multiplayer sports game combining elements of rugby and dodgeball with third-person shooting and grappling-hook traversal.

Two teams compete to carry a golden ball into the opposing team's goal. Players can attack opponents using smaller projectiles; getting hit causes the player to respawn and drop the golden ball. A grappling hook provides an additional high-speed traversal option across the arena.

I worked as part of a seven-person development team, contributing to programming and several player-facing systems in Unreal Engine 4.

PROJECT INFORMATION

Role: Programmer · UI / Systems Designer

Engine: Unreal Engine 4 · C++ · Blueprint

Platform: PC (Steam)

Team: 7 Developers

Genre: 3D · Multiplayer · Sports · TPS · Sci-Fi

Core Focus: Multiplayer Systems · UI/UX · Lobby System · In-Game Chat · Graphics Settings

MULTIPLAYER & GAME SYSTEMS

My work included the design and implementation of systems surrounding the multiplayer experience, including the game's lobby system and in-game chat system.

These systems supported the flow around the core multiplayer match rather than the moment-to-moment sports mechanics alone, giving players the interfaces and communication tools needed to enter and participate in multiplayer sessions.

UI & PLAYER SETTINGS

I worked on the game's UI design and implemented player-facing functionality including graphics settings. This involved connecting interface elements with underlying game functionality and making technical options accessible through the game's menus.

I also contributed to the game's sound effects as part of the overall player feedback and presentation.

GAMEPLAY

The core design combines several familiar mechanics into one multiplayer ruleset:

Carry the Golden Ball

Players bring the central golden ball into the opposing team's goal to score.

Attack Opponents

Players can shoot opposing players with smaller green balls. A hit causes the opponent to respawn at their starting point and drop the golden ball.

Grappling Hook Traversal

Players can use a grappling hook to rapidly cover large distances, adding another movement option to the arena.
